Call of the Green
I like to write songs and make videos, so, just for fun, I started a new thing over on YouTube: The Pop Culture Sing Along.
This is a new monthly series where I sing a song about something related to pop culture. And I included the lyrics so you can sing, too. Don’t even pretend you are too cool to sing. Just don’t.
This one is a song about two of my favorite superheroes: Green Lantern and Green Arrow. Nerdy but true. Check it out.
Scrivener First Impressions
Writing the Lights Out 27 – I bought a Mac this week, and quickly decided to try the writing software Scrivener.
So far, there are three things I really like:
1. The way scenes and chapters are treated as individual documents for easy sorting.
2. The area for storing all your research material.
3. The way it lets you set up project goals (Project Targets) and daily goals (Session Targets).

Why Writers Should Listen to Audiobooks
Writing the Lights Out 26 – When I’m in the hands of a master storyteller, everything but the story disappears. Which is awesome, but am I missing something by not taking the time to figure out why the story is so effective? Audiobooks force me to slow down and pay attention. Plus? I can listen while driving. Way more books and way less crashing.
Three Tips for Becoming a More Productive Writer
Writing the Lights Out 25 –
I really liked this post by John L. Monk and this post by Kristine McKinley . I’m a giant productivity nerd, so I love hearing about how others are doing it. Inspired by their transparency, I thoughts I’d share a few techniques I have recently put in place to help my own productivity.
Three tips that have helped me become more productive of late:
1. Have a production calendar.
2. Overlap projects.
3. Plan for the worst.
