In which I give myself a hard deadline for completing the first draft of my next novel. It’s finish or burn 2.0!
I’ve been slacking on writing my next novel, so it’s time to get tough. I must finish the first draft by July 15, or I will delete it and start over. I also discuss what I am currently reading.
Great video — reblogged it: http://john-l-monk.com/2014/04/19/p-t-hylton-spea…
Before you pop into your next book, highly recommend you watch the Jim Butcher videos I linked to on my site. You will need headphones, the sound is just a tad too low. You may psychologically rebel at Butcher's approach, but after the initial pain of "omg you're messing with creativity" dies down, you'll see he's got a lot of great tips.
Old Man's War — absolutely loved it. Sickens me how good it is. The whole series, in fact.
Recommendations of another sickeningly good book: Hmm…how about I just give you a list of books I recommended somewhere at/around my very first blog post. Not to be all self-promoty, just to say "hey, this rocked" — they're all sickeningly good: http://john-l-monk.com/2012/07/13/some-memorable-…
I love your approach to writing: "finish it or burn it" — wow.
Oh yeah, another reason why I mentioned the Butcher videos, he talks a lot about game design and how it's like writing, so there you go.
Cheers
Thanks John. That's a great list of books. A lot of my favorites are on there, so that makes me think our tastes are similar enough that I really need to check out the stuff on your list that I have not read.
Those Butcher videos look like they would be right up my alley. I will check those out in the next couple of days.
